Brief Biography
Juan Carlos Gómez was born in Rosario, Argentina. In 1983,
he received the Electronic Engineering Degree from the National University of
Rosario (Universidad Nacional de Rosario), Rosario,
Argentina, and in August 1998 he was awarded a PhD. Degree in Electrical and Computer
Engineering from the University of Newcastle, Australia, for his thesis entitled
Asymptotic Analysis of Dynamic System Identification using Rational Orthonormal
Bases. From 1977, he has
held several teaching positions at the National University of Rosario. He spent
the 1987/1988 academic year at the Dipartimento di Automatica e Informatica at
the Politecnico di Torino, Turin, Italy, with a scholarship from the Italian government.
From 1989 to 1994 he was a Research Fellow from the National Research
Council of Argentina (CONICET) working on Nonlinear Control, and
Adjunct Professor (part-time) at the Department of Electronics, National
University of Rosario. From Sept. 2002
until Sept. 2003 he was a postdoc fellow at the Department of Chemical and Biochemical
Engineering, The University of Western Ontario, London, Canada, carrying out
research on Nonlinear Model Predictive Control and Identification. He currently is
Full Professor at the Control Department, National University of Rosario. His research
interests are in the areas of Nonlinear System Identification and Multimedia Signal Processing.
His main `non-academic' interest is on Early Music. His favorite
soprano is Emma
